Matchbook Wine Company

Matchbook Wine Company is a family-owned operation in the Dunnigan Hills of Zamora, CA, producing and bottling quality wines on-site under such labels as: Matchbook, The Arsonist, Mossback, and Chasing Venus. Thirty minutes from Davis, the winery is located in the midst of 1,300 acres of estate vineyards, comprised of Chardonnay, Tempranillo, Syrah, and several other varietals. We expect to crush about 2700 tons in 2017 (approximately 30% white, 70% red). The majority of our grapes come from our estate vineyards, but we also source fruit from the Russian River Valley and Chalk Hill.


Winemaker

Matchbook Wine Company is seeking a winemaking professional to support the Director of Winemaking in all aspects of production. Selected person will manage day to day wine making activities, including cellar, crush, bottling and lab. We have state of art equipment and continually look to be near the forefront of technology and advancement in the industry. Person must be inspired and passionate about winemaking and have knowledge of a wide range of varieties.

We expect:

  • Strong organizational skills, problem solving and logistical skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS office and AMS
  • Strong time management skills with firm understanding of completing tasks on time with quality a priority.
  • Practiced sensory skills with ability to detect problems and knowledge to offer solutions.
  • Degree in Enology or related field with minimum 5 years experience in wine production.

Bottling Line / Cellar Mechanic

Seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented mechanic to attend to our in-house bottling line and cellar equipment. Responsibilities include daily/weekly/monthly machine maintenance, repair work, and record keeping for all bottling line equipment and some cellar equipment (pumps, forklifts, etc). You will work closely with bottling line operators to ensure all machines are functioning properly and efficiently, in addition to monitoring quality of packaging.

This position extends over harvest, during which we will not bottle, allowing time for all machines to be attended to. Some cellar work may be required. During harvest months, you must have the ability and willingness to work 6 days a week, including weekends, and overtime. In addition, you must be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time, climb stairs and ladders, lift 50 pounds, and be on your feet for most of the day. Reliable transportation is required.

Graphic Design and Marketing Assistant

Matchbook Wine Company is seeking an enthusiastic, creative individual who is willing to take on the many tasks needed for a growing Design department. This is a unique opportunity for a trained Graphic Designer to be in integral part of a fast growing, entrepreneurial organization. Ideal candidates possess strong visual and verbal skills, demonstrated time management skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Working with and under advisement of the Art Director, the tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Producing and/or designing print and digital marketing pieces
  • Assisting with updating website graphics and maintaining content
  • Developing, writing and editing innovative and creative content for marketing campaigns and all social media platforms
  • Assisting with maintaining marketing and social media calendars
  • Proofreading content for website, marketing pieces and social media posts
  • Maintaining archive of images, photos and previous projects
  • Preparing final layouts for production, printer, etc.

Education and Experience:

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design
  • Minimum of one (1) year graphic design with social media and/or marketing experience is required
  • Must be proficient in Mac Platform: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Video and photography experience a plus; Adobe Premier or similar software knowledge
  • Must have working knowledge of Google Drive
  • Proficient in social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn
  • Creative writing or copywriting a plus

Part-Time Tasting Room Associate

The Tasting Room Associate will work weekends, holidays and assist with events as directed by the Tasting Room Manager. The position requires a self-motivated individual who thrives in a fun and fast-paced environment. Passion for and knowledge of wine is a plus.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Able to work weekends, holidays and evenings as needed
  • Ensure a positive experience for our guests with exceptional customer service
  • Selling wine and merchandise using a computer-based cash register
  • Package and ship wine orders
  • Pour wine for customers
  • Restock merchandise
  • Responsible service of alcohol which includes checking guest identification
  • Pour wine at “off-site winery” events as needed
  • Build relationships with guests to increase sales and stimulate repeat visits
  • Assist with open/close procedures, including day-to-day maintenance of Tasting Room, e.g. restocking inventory, washing and polishing glasses, cleaning tables, maintaining general appearance of Tasting Room
  • Handle routine cash register transactions and daily accounting of sales
  • Carry out customer purchases
  • Perform clean-up duties at the end of each shift
  • Close out cash register
  • Lock & secure Tasting Room

Minimum Requirements:

  • Able to stand for long hours while working
  • Must have the ability to lift and move 50 pounds
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must be able to work a minimum of two days per month
  • Must be available on Friday evenings
  • Must be able to work at least 2 Holiday Shifts (Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Day after Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve)
  • Must be available weekends and occasional Mondays and Fridays

Cellar Intern Job – early July start / end Nov (or when school starts)

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to work in the cellar for the duration of the 2018 harvest.  You will have the opportunity to assist in all harvest related cellar operations, including:

  • Receiving grapes
  • Conducting pumpovers and punchdowns
  • Assisting with additions to juice and wine
  • Sanitize tanks and equipment
  • Draining and pressing tanks
  • Barrel work – racking, filling
  • Transferring must, juice, and wine

Grape Sampler/Lab Intern Job – early July start / end Nov (or when school starts)

We are looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented individual to assist in berry sampling and lab work for the duration of the 2018 harvest. You will be responsible for daily sampling of multiple vineyard sites, including recording observations regarding fruit development. You will also work closely with the lab director to perform routine analysis on collected juice samples. This position may include some cellar work.
