Matchbook Wine Company

Matchbook Wine Company is a family-owned operation in the Dunnigan Hills of Zamora, CA, producing and bottling quality wines on-site under such labels as: Matchbook, The Arsonist, Mossback, and Chasing Venus. Thirty minutes from Davis, the winery is located in the midst of 1,300 acres of estate vineyards, comprised of Chardonnay, Tempranillo, Syrah, and several other varietals. We expect to crush about 2700 tons in 2017 (approximately 30% white, 70% red). The majority of our grapes come from our estate vineyards, but we also source fruit from the Russian River Valley and Chalk Hill.



The Tasting Room Assistant Manager is a permanent part-time position at Matchbook Winery in Zamora. The Tasting Room Assistant Manager will work closely with the Tasting Room Manager. The position will be 3-4 days per week and will work weekends and holidays and assist with events as directed by the Tasting Room Manager. This position will be responsible for opening and closing the tasting room on the weekends and managing weekend staff. The position requires a self-motivated individual who thrives in a fun and fast paced environment. Passion for and knowledge of wine a plus.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assistant to Tasting Room Manager
  • Oversee & plan private event rentals
  • Participate in training of new Tasting Room Associates
  • Set-up for winery events (tables, chairs and shade structures for large events)
  • Pour and sell wine to customers
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and encourage Tasting Room Associates to do the same
  • Monitor inventory of supplies (glasses, shirts, etc.)
  • Assist in all aspects of Matchbook Wine Club (processing, packing and planning club events)
  • Attend off-site events
  • Able to work holidays and evenings as needed
  • Build relationships with guests to increase sales and stimulate repeat visits
  • Perform Open/Close procedures including day-to-day maintenance of Tasting Room (e.g. restocking inventory, washing glasses, cleaning tables, maintaining appearance of Tasting Room)
  • Handle routine cash register transactions and daily accounting of sales
  • Answer incoming calls
  • Assist customers in transporting wine to their vehicles
  • Other duties assigned by the Tasting Room Manager

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have the ability to lift and move 50 pounds
  • Able to stand for long hours while working
  • Basic computer and money handling skills preferred
  • Tasting Room experience preferred
  • Capability to work a flexible schedule (including weekends and evenings)
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
