Matchbook Wine Company

Matchbook Wine Company is a family-owned operation in the Dunnigan Hills of Zamora, CA, producing and bottling quality wines on-site under such labels as: Matchbook, The Arsonist, Mossback, and Chasing Venus. Thirty minutes from Davis, the winery is located in the midst of 1,300 acres of estate vineyards, comprised of Chardonnay, Tempranillo, Syrah, and several other varietals. We expect to crush about 2700 tons in 2017 (approximately 30% white, 70% red). The majority of our grapes come from our estate vineyards, but we also source fruit from the Russian River Valley and Chalk Hill.

Cellar Intern Job – beginning July 2017 start / end October 2017 (school)

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to work in the cellar for the duration of the 2017 harvest.  You will have the opportunity to assist in all harvest related cellar operations, including:

  • Receiving grapes
  • Conducting pumpovers and punchdowns
  • Assisting with additions to juice and wine
  • Sanitize tanks and equipment
  • Draining and pressing tanks
  • Barrel work – racking, filling
  • Transferring must, juice, and wine

You must have the ability and willingness to work 6 days a week, including weekends, and overtime. In addition, you must be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time, climb stairs and ladders, lift 50 pounds, and be on your feet for most of the day. Reliable transportation is required.

Grape Sampler/Lab Intern Job – beginning July 2017 start / end October 2017 (school)

We are looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented individual to assist in berry sampling and lab work for the duration of the 2017 harvest. You will be responsible for daily sampling of multiple vineyard sites, including recording observations regarding fruit development. You will also work closely with the lab director to assist in monitoring fermentations, other harvest related analysis, and monitoring of all other wine lots. This position may include some cellar work.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Basic computer skills

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Matchbook Wine Company, a family owned winery in Yolo County, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our fast growing, entrepreneurial organization.

Job Description:

The Senior Accountant reports to the Chief Financial Officer and performs accounting tasks including journal entries, account reconciliations and account analysis.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system.
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries for the timely and accurate general ledger close.
  • Manage the month-end closings.
  • Update costing monthly for Company products.
  • Assist in preparing year-end review.
  • Oversee and support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Monitor and review work by staff for accuracy and appropriate handling.
  • Maintain strong internal system controls.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or Finance.
  • Must have at least three years experience in accounting, preferably in the wine industry or in manufacturing.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks with changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office including expert Excel skills.

TASTING ROOM / LOCAL SALES, Position: Full Time

Description: Weekend Tasting Room Lead and Local Market Sales Representative 

Reports to: Tasting Room Manager and Regional Sales Manager

The Tasting Room-Local Sales Associate is a full-time position at the Matchbook Wine Company in Zamora, CA. The position will be Lead Tasting Room Associate on weekends and report to the Tasting Room Manager. The Local Sales portion of the position will work three week days calling on accounts in the local Sacramento market under the direction of the Regional Sales Manager. The position requires a self-motivated individual who thrives in a fun and fast-paced environment. Passion for and knowledge of wine is a plus.

Job Duties and Responsibilities for Tasting Room:

  • Weekend lead position in the Tasting Room
  • Ensure a positive experience for our guests with exceptional customer service
  • Sell wine and merchandise using a computer based cash register
  • Pour wine for customers
  • Restock merchandise
  • Responsible service of alcohol which includes checking guest identification
  • Build relationships with guests to increase sales and stimulate repeat visits
  • Oversee the Open/Close procedures, including day-to-day maintenance of Tasting Room, ie. restocking inventory, washing glasses, cleaning tables, maintaining appearance of Tasting Room during the work hours and at the end of each shift.
  • Handle routine cash register transactions and accounting of sales
  • Carry customer purchases when necessary

Job Duties and Responsibilities for Local Sales:

  • Under direction of Regional Sales Manager, be proactive in making regular sales calls, growing sales volume and developing working relationships with key accounts in the territory independent of the distributor sales force.
  • Work with, coach and educate distributor sales members on brand priorities, opportunities and standards
  • Establish sales presence in the market and conduct regular distributor market work-withs to ensure brand priority and initiatives are maintained
  • Conduct staff training and in-store and trade tastings as needed
  • Provide feedback to Region Manager on market issues: opportunities, changes, distributor issues and competitive activity
  • Work with Region Manager to develop action plans for business opportunities
  • Provide weekly progress reports of account calls and distributor work-withs

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Able to stand for long hours while working
  • Must have the ability to lift and move 50 pounds
  • Must be available on weekends
  • 1-2 years related experience in alcohol & beverage industry, with specific local market experience, highly preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
