The sound of twangy blues guitar, sassy vocals and the tip-tap of drums echoed over the Matchbook Vineyard as the Blues Dues American Roots band took center stage. The smell of fresh roasted Gilroy-grown garlic wafted from Andes Pizza truck oven while an Italian greeting was shouted out of the bustling Che Buono Food truck window – starting off the night with a bang.
Matchbook debuted its brand new, custom built stage on Friday, May 24th. The 24′ x 16′ stage was designed and built by Matchbook co-owner, Karl Giguiere. The stage rests at the bottom of the sloping green lawn that leads to the tasting room, with the backdrop of rolling hills and vines. Blues Dues rocked the stage playing the likes of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, along with plenty of original songs. Hambone Slim, the front man, wooed the crowd with his superb guitar playing skills and vocals. Hundreds of guests armed with bottles and glasses of wine enjoyed the view of the stage from the comfort of picnic blankets and chairs. The night came to a perfect end as the band finished their last song with the glowing orange sunset sinking behind them.
“What a beautiful event! We loved playing at Matchbook (as we always do) and this show was special because we had the honor of using their awesome professional outdoor amphitheater stage! As musicians, it is so great to have the right amount of space and lighting to let us create a top quality show. Matchbook is on our list of favorite venues to perform. The staff and patrons are always friendly and the vibe is the best! We can’t wait to come back!”
