by: Virginia Valdez Sandfer

You heard it right! The Matchbook Tasting Room is getting ready for the summer and extending its hours on Fridays and Saturdays! Summer Sunset Hours will begin Friday, May 3rd and run through Saturday, September 28th. The Matchbook summer line-up includes a variety of food trucks with amazing cuisine and musical talent.

“We have some great events planned throughout the summer. There will be a mix of fan-favorite bands and food trucks as well as some new ones that we’re very excited about!”
–Wine Club Manager & Event Director, Anna Sargent.

Customers can enjoy tastings for $10 at the Matchbook tasting room bar or on the spacious patio overlooking the picturesque vineyard and rolling hills. Wine is also for sale by the bottle. During warmer temperatures, the misting system will be on to cool down the patio.

Bring your beach chairs and picnic blankets to take advantage of “the best seat in the house” – the gorgeous, green lawn!

“I’m excited to serve our guests while they enjoy a bottle of wine on the patio, watching the beautiful sunset. I hope our customers take advantage of our new late hours and make Fridays and Saturdays at Matchbook a repeat occasion!” –Tasting Room Manager, Maureen Henderson.

Matchbook Tasting Room: Meet Anna & Maureen

by: Virginia Valdez Sandfer

Meet Matchbook’s Tasting Room Management Team

Anna Sargent
Events & Wine Club Director

Anna has served as the Matchbook Assistant Tasting Room Manager for over a year and has been promoted to Events and Wine Club Director. Always positive, helpful and resourceful, Anna pairs perfectly at Matchbook!

Anna was born and raised in Gilroy, CA. In 2017, she received her BA in Business Administration with a Concentration in Entertainment and Tourism Management from CSU Fullerton. Anna moved to Woodland after graduation, immediately fell in love with Matchbook Winery, and jumped at the chance to be the Tasting Room Assistant Manager in 2017. While going to school in Orange County, she attended the Disney college program and worked at Disneyland for three years. It was there she found her passion for helping create memorable experiences for park visitors – something she enjoys doing now for the Matchbook tasting room clientele. Anna loves all forms of entertainment from music to movies to video games. She especially enjoys them with a tasty glass of wine, beer or cider.

Favorite wine: Tinto ReySuper Tinto Red Blend
Favorite thing about the holidays: Sharing great food and wine, swapping stories and watching Christmas movies with family members you haven’t seen in a while.
When I’m not drinking wine, you can find me: Hanging out in Woodland or Winters – usually at other wineries, breweries and restaurants – enjoying everything that our beautiful Yolo County has to offer.

Maureen Henderson
Tasting Room Manager

Matchbook is excited to welcome Maureen Henderson as Tasting Room Manager. Maureen, a former restaurant manager and beverage manager, brings an excellent customer service background and years of food and wine knowledge to the team. Say hello to her next time you stop by the tasting room. She looks forward to meeting you!

Maureen was born and raised in Southern New Jersey, just across the bridge from Philadelphia. She seemingly spent her entire life gaining a wealth of experience in the beverage and hospitality biz. She started in the restaurant industry at 16 years old at a classic New Jersey diner. She left after ten years to gain experience in the corporate restaurant setting at Seasons 52. In her five years there, she worked her way up from server/bartender to Service Professional to Beverage Manager. In the middle of her time at Seasons she squeezed in two years at Canada Dry Delaware Valley, learning all about the soft drink industry. Maureen joined Matchbook at the end of 2018 to manage the winery’s hospitality. Maureen lives in Plumas Lake with her husband Mike, a pilot in the Air Force, and their two daughters Camryn and Remi. She loves crafts, painting projects with her kids and all the Philadelphia sports teams.

Favorite wine: Matchbook Petite Sirah (Newbies have to stick together!)
Favorite thing about the holidays: Christmas Lights – driving around and seeing everyone’s houses lit up!
When I’m not drinking wine, you can find me: Crafting – wreaths, painting, art projects with my kids!

Matchbook Food Drive

by: Mikaela Leach

California produces nearly half of the nation’s fruits and vegetables, yet 1 in 8 Californians currently struggle with food insecurity. “Food insecurity” is the occasional or constant lack of access to the food one needs for a healthy, active life.

Please help us fill the barrels in our tasting room with canned goods and shelf-stable foods now through November 20th. The Yolo Food Bank will distribute the food to people struggling with “food insecurity” in Yolo County.

Visit Matchbook, fill your glass and fill our Yolo Food Bank barrel!

Managers’ Hand-Pick Cabernet Sauvignon

by: Mikaela Leach

Owners, John and Lane Giguiere and Winemaker, Dan Cederquist got out in the vineyard with our management team to hand pick a unique lot of Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

These grapes will be part of a very special wine scheduled to release in 2020 in the Matchbook Tasting Room. Here is the team with the fruits of their labor!
