The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is the largest competition of American wines. Our very own 2015 Mossback Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon and 2016 Mossback Central Coast Pinot Noir received Gold Medals to recognize their outstanding quality.
Mossback is an old-time expression for farmers and is a nod to those who intimately understand the delicate relationship between vine, climate and soil connected to their roots. Winemaker Dan Cederquist has been working with our Mossback Vineyards for over 20 years.
Dan has a passion for making Mossback Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, he ferments a portion of this wine in barrel and loves the power and flavors this winemaking technique imparts on the final blend. The Mossback Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is an enticing mix of dusty berries, currants, leather and cigar box aromas followed by a lush mouthfeel that reveals layered flavors of cassis, black licorice and vanilla.
Pinot Noir has been one of Dan’s favorite grapes for over 20 years and the Central Coast is one of the great Pinot Noir regions of the world as its terroir produces wines with flavors that mirror the great wines of Burgundy. The Mossback Central Coast Pinot Noir aims to please with a silky mouth feel that reveals flavors of rich black cherry that transition to chocolate and allspice on the elegant and soft finish.
